Event details and schedule
Hello, participants of the 2020 Carnival Frolic Half Marathon! We are SO EXCITED that you are running with us this year. We look forward to seeing you all on Saturday, February 22nd!
A few notes to answer some questions you may have, but please be sure to scroll all the way through because PARKING information is at the end and it is VERY IMPORTANT to read due to road closures.
This is our biggest race field yet! We have participants coming in from 18 states and now we have international runners too. We are beyond thrilled! That’s the good news. The bad news is that we may have to cap registration soon, so if you know of anyone who wants to register, please have them do it sooner rather than later.
Packet pickup will be Friday, February 21st from 10am to 6pm at the Carnegie Visual Arts Center located at 207 Church Street NE, and on race day, Saturday, February 22nd from 6:30-7:30am at the Old State Bank at the intersection of Church and Bank Streets. If there is room to register more runners, late registration will be held during packet pickup times. Please note that Church Street and Bank Street will both be closed the morning of the race. A separate email will be sent regarding parking and will be included in Friday’s packet pickup.
Medals and Swag
This year’s swag is the best we’ve had! Our medal is amazing too and we can’t wait for you to receive these fun race souveniers! You may have noticed that there is no shirt size in the registration form. This is because we are rolling out two new signature swag items in lieu of a race shirt. Plus there is additional non-race themed swag in every bag. You will not be disappointed! And our medals get better every year. (If you would like a shirt, the Carnegie Carnival weekend shirts are available to purchase.)
FREE FOOD! Milo's and Whitt's Barbeque are graciously sponsoring biscuits, grit bowls, bananas, and orange juice. Pepsi of Decatur is providing water and soft drinks. Thank you to these sponsors!
Carnegie Carnival is an amazing day filled with family fun! It all starts with the Half Marathon, followed by a children’s parade, pet parade, and family friendly night time parade through downtown Decatur. If you are coming in from out of town, you will really want to make plans to stay the whole day and experience all the Carnegie Carnival has to offer.
Visit www.carnegiecarnival.org to learn more about the day.
For hotel or travel information, please contact the Carnegie Visual Arts Center or the Decatur Morgan County Board of Tourism.
Lead Cyclist/Time Cutoffs
We will have two lead cyclists pacing with the lead runner. They will stay on the runner’s pace. The lead runner should not expect the cyclists to pace him/her, as they are moving at his/her pace. There is no time limit for the race. However, it should be noted that a parade will be starting along Bank Street at noon and that may affect your ability to access the finish line once you make the final turn onto Bank. If the parade is en route while you are running, please use the sidewalks. We will not close the finish until our designated sweeper runner finishes. The sweeper runner will be the last person across the finish line.
PARKING –We saved the best for last because this is VERY IMPORTANT!
ON THE MORNING OF THE RACE, both Church Street and Bank Street will be closed. You will receive a map in your packet on Friday night. Please see below for the printed instructions on where to park and how to access the area on race morning. This does not apply to packet pickup on Friday.
