About This Activity

The Hines Park - MI State Time Trial Championship is a USA Cycling sanctioned 20K/40K cycling Time Trial. It is an event in the MBRA Michigan Challenge Point Series. Cyclists of all abilities are encouraged to participate.

Event details and schedule

Location: Check in is inside the Helms Haven Picnic Shelter on Edward N. Hines Drive west of West Outer Drive.
Description: The event consists of 2 loops (Juniors 1 loop) of a 12 mile (20 km) out-n-back closed course.  This is a closed-course event over rolling terrain with NO motor traffic. The event will be held rain or shine.
Tming: The Timing Guys will provide professional, computerized timing which will enable quick and accurate results.
Races: Individual, tandem, handcyclist, and open (HPV, recumbent, etc.) events. 
Prizes and Awards:

State championship medals will be awarded to the top 3 finishers in each category; MI residency a requirement to receive a medal. Masters category medals will be awarded in 5 year age groupings. 1st place finisher in each category receives their entry fee. Prize awarded for fastest male and fastest female. Medals and prizes will be given out only during the Award Ceremony at the conclusion of the event, participants must be present, awards and medals will not be mailed afterwards.

Schedule: Check in opens at 7:00 am. NO DAY OF EVENT REGISTRATION. Racing starts at 8:00 am. Riders are responsible for being at the start line on time. For start times and results visit
MI Challenge: This event is part of the MBRA Michigan Challenge Points Series. Riders participating in the Michigan Challenge should enter the Hines Park - Michigan State Time Trail Championship in their MBRA Michigan Challenge category.
Mandatory: Helmets must be worn. A USA Cycling Athlete Release Form must be signed at check in. A valid USA Cycling license is required. Your USA Cycling annual license number MUST be included with this entry to enter all Master's categories, Sr. Men Cat 1-4, or Sr. Women Cat 1-3 . Annual licenses may be purchased online at A one day USA Cycling license may be purchased as part of this entry. Senior riders with one day licenses may only race as Sr. Men Cat 5 or Sr. Women Cat 4.
Rules: All USA Cycling rules apply. No drafting allowed. Riders are responsible to be at the start line on time. No time allowance will be given for late starts.
Eddy Mercks Category: The Eddy Mercks category, for men and women, is for the traditionalist rider who wants to ride a regular road bike:

No skin suit

No aero helmet, no helmet cover

No aero shoes, no shoe covers

No aero handlebars

No aero bike frames

No frame tube can be elongated more than a 2 to 1 ratio

No wheels with a rim over 30mm deep

Protests: Results will be formally posted after all riders have completed for a 15 minute protest period. Riders may question any results with the USA Cycling Chief Referee. At the end of the protest period the results are FINAL and the award ceremony will begin. No changes to results will be made after the protest period ends. It is the participant responsibility to validate their time prior to leaving the event.
