About this event
Homeschoolers Makerspace Literacy + Engineering NEW! In these 1.5 hour weekly workshops, students will ignite their imagination, develop 21st century skills of critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication while using the engineering/creative design process. Workshops are aligned with Next Generation Science Standards for Engineering Design with a focus on Motion, Stability, Energy, Balance and Cause and Effect relationships. Individual and group work will include read aloud, creative writing and other active engagement with children’s literature and poetry with a focus on inspirational inventors, artists, engineers, and designers. This innovative approach to teaching STEAM includes: 1) Student planning discussion and research 2) Teacher created engineering challenges 3) A student led upcycle invention station 4) Cooperative “group builds” 5) Class reflection conversations Added research/ group presentation projects will be a part of the class as well as in- depth discussion of the inventors, artists, and science facts. Take home/ follow up work will be expected for continued practice and learning at home. Extended season: weekly September through December.
