Wild Guide mentorship curriculum promotes social and emotional growth through skills development, leadership and team work training as well as thematic group conversations about subjects critically relevant to today's adolescents. Cohorts meet with a committed mentor/instructor weekly developing new skills and competencies, new relationships and friendships and heightened levels of confidence, initiative, responsibility & connection. These gatherings occur weekday nights with their Mentor who will lead a hard and soft skills practices. Hard Skills content include such things as survival & naturalist skills and soft skills development occurs in part through structured, thematic discussions about goals, values, initiative, responsibility/leadership, technology, the future etc.. Once a month Cohorts attend a weekend field trip visiting different ecosystems in various seasons and practice wilderness skills in depth. Three of these monthly outings will be 2 day/1 night overnight trips where participants use teamwork, the skills they have been developing and even the tools they have crafted to thrive outside. Outdoor Apprenticeship provides a place for risk taking, for making new & close friendships and for being pushed to grow toward becoming a powerful young man or woman. We practice integrity and respect for and curiosity about the natural world. It is a commitment to take part as a cohort member for 8 months and participants should expect to w/ this 7 month Outdoor Skills and Leadership program (leading to an apprentice certification) by Coyle Outside) connects participants with a like minded peer group which they build relationship and camaraderie with. Mentored and guided by experienced outdoor skills instructors, participants meet weekly on Thursday nights, monthly for an all day field trip the third Sunday of the month and quarterly for a weekend camping trip (replaces monthly field trip in Nov, Feb and May.
