Preschool Learn-to-Swim Class - 3 to 5 year olds

These classes are developed to allow our young swimmers the opportunity to transition from the shallow water pool to the larger competitive pool with comfort and confidence. In these classes the young swimmers will start to develop skills that will allow them to swim independently. These classes will start with learning how to enter the pool, getting comfortable putting their head under water, the introduction of different strokes, practicing those skills and being able to perform those skills independent of instructors support.

There are 3 Levels of the American Red Cross PreSchool Learn-to-Swim program. The class will split into smaller ability groups meant to specifically challenge children of this age/class. The main criteria for these groups are (but not limited to) submersion, floating (front/back), and/or listening skills. With children of this age, we will do our best to continue to evaluate their skill and comfort and adjust as needed.

Once class begins, parents must find seating in the balcony or adjacent classroom.

Feel free to to take pictures of your child in class. Often the first day is not the best choice for pictures as children of this age are nervous or scared by new people in a new environment.

PLAY sponsorship is available to help cover $20 in fees for those that can demonstrate need by producing:
Copy of your Medicaid/Caresource/Molina health card OR
Copy of your ADC/OWF card
PLAY can only be used for one program per seasonal session -- at All Recreation Centers. Registrants wishing to use PLAY must come to the Aquatics Center during normal business hours, 9am to 5pm, in order to complete registration.

Simple steps save lives. We encourage the use of U.S. Coast Guard approved, properly fitting flotation devices for ALL non-swimmers. We offer puddle-jumpers and lifejackets readily available for use. All non-swimmers and children under the age of 8 (especially children 5 & under) need close supervision in all aquatic environments WITH flotation devices. "To improve pool and spa safety, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission launched Pool Safely: Simple Steps to Save Lives, a national public education campaign to reduce childhood drownings, submersion injuries and entrapments. To pool safely means adopting critical water safety steps to assure that a great afternoon at the pool doesn't turn into a tragic one. Whether at a residential or public pool or spa, everyone can always take additional steps to be safe while having fun!"http://www.poolsafely.gov/pledge
