What's Included

Pâte de verre is another form of kiln casting and literally translates as "glass paste." Finely crushed glass is mixed with a binding material and often with colorants or enamels. The resultant paste is applied to the inner surface of a negative mould and kiln-fired to fuse, creating a hollow object that can have thick or thin walls depending on the thickness of the pate de verre layers. Students will learn about the Pate de Verre technique, the history of it, see a presentation of Pate de Verre through the years, as well as modern pieces. There will be a video presentation of the technique being used at the Corning Institute or Bullseye Glass. Students will then choose from molds I have already prepared and using various glass powders will fill the molds. They will have to schedule a time to come back and pick up the finished pieces.
