Columbus, GA has quickly become a Triathlon Mecca. It is home to a long distance triathlons, sprints, olympics, duathlons, adventure races, and off road duathlons. The 4-6ft down river swims, flat to rolling hills (Half course only) on the bike, and the flat and scenic run course appeal to both the beginner and advanced triathlete. We look forward seeing you and welcoming you to our community.
Triathlons, especially Sprint races should be FUN. Start your experience with a water slide into the river (no required) and finish it up with a water slide and splash pad at the finish line.
Not a big swimmer, but still want to get wet? Join the Chattahoochee Challenge Sprint Triathlon Floatie Division with a 500m float (bring your best floatie), 12 mile bike, and 5k run. Awards will be given for the top 3 floaties.

Event details and schedule
We are very excited that you will be racing with us this year. Below you will find all the information you need to have a great race!
All changes to race categories (for example Age Group to Athena or Age Group to Floatie Division) can be made at packet pick up.
Please note that the Chattahoochee River is scheduled for a release from the Dam on Friday afternoon and evening. No practice swims are permitted during this time.
We will be starting the race at 7:30am. Our paratriathletes will begin at 7:15am followed with our floatie division at 7:18am
Packet Pick Up:
Ride On Bikes located at 1036 Broadway Columbus, GA 31901. Packets may be picked up Friday from 4-7pm or Saturday at transition from 500am-7am.
All athletes MUST bring all of the following to Packet Pick Up:
1. Government issue valid photo ID
2. Valid USAT card (if a member)
USAT Rules and Regulations:
The TriColumbusGA Chattahoochee Challenge Race Series is sanctioned by USA Triathlon. This means that all participants will need to be either an annual member of USAT or procure a one-day membership and sign a waiver. One day memberships for 2017 are $15 (adult) $10 (child) which can be purchased during registration. If you registered online and paid the USAT fee, it will be noted on the forms at packet pick up.
Bike Check In:
Bikes will be checked in race morning only.
Run: Aid Station will be located at Dillingham and Front Ave. You will hit this aid station twice during your run. -water and Cerasport will be provided.
Transition Area is located adjacent to the One Arsenol Parking Lot off of Dillingham St. You're closest point of reference is the Columbus Trade Center. This is located at 801 Front Avenue Columbus, GA 31901-2714.
Swim Course: The swim course will be 500m DOWNSTREAM. Buoys will be set up on along the course. We ask that you keep buoys on your RIGHT at all times. The river depths are approximately 4-6 ft in depth. The closer to shore, the more shallow the water. Swim Route
Athletes will start the swim portion of the race via a water slide. Remain calm, the entry into the water is very tame and controlled. A video of the water slide entry can be view here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_gyQgclqHc8 ALL ENTRIES DOWN THE WATER SLIDE MUST BE FEET FIRST...NO EXCEPTIONS. Should an athlete not want to use the slide start, the use of the steps to the waters edge is permitted once the athlete crosses the timing mat. The Sprint triathlon is conducted in a time trial fashion. Athletes will start one at a time and is staged on a first come first serve basis. We ask if you are a slower swimmer, you stage yourself in the front to middle of the line.
Pre Swim and Wetsuits:
The swim is NOT wetsuit legal. Water temperatures are currently hovering around 82-83 degrees. Should you choose to use a wetsuit, you will not be eligible for age group awards.
Duathlon Run #1 Duathletes will start 7:45am from Woodruff Park (directly above the swim start) for their 1 mile run. Duathlon Route:
The bike course begins and ends on the Columbus Riverwalk. Race in Progress signs will be posted along this stretch and entrances will be blocked. The the Riverwalk will be CLOSED to pedestrian traffic this year. We will have a lead vehicle will clear any traffic. The bike course is loop course, please follow all signs and volunteer instructions. Please be mindful that the City of Columbus is graciously allowing us to use their property. Keep all your trash with you. Police and volunteers will be located on the course at critical intersections for your safety.
Technical support will be on the course to assist with emergency repairs whenever possible; but athletes are expected to be able to handle basic repairs (changing a flat, basic adjustments, etc) themselves. Please be self-sufficient.
USAT officials will also be on the course to enforce USAT rules and regulations. Tri/Du Bike
The run course is very flat 1-loop course. An aid stations is located approximately 200 yds out of transition. You will pass this aid station twice. Should family and friends wish to send their athlete a motivational message there will be sidewalk chalk available at transition/packet pick up.

6pm - Pre Race Brief at the Transition area on Dillingham Ave/Bridge

Friday at 6pm - A pre race brief and question and answer session will meet at the transition area located on Dillingham Ave/Bridge. No question is too dumb! We welcome them all.
Chattahoochee KidsFriday, July 14 at 7pm, our kids fun run offers youth ages 3-13 the opportunity to feel the excitement of the weekend's competition while enjoying the outdoors and promoting healthy living. Distances include 1/4 mile, 1/2 mile, and 1 mile out and back courses on the Columbus Riverwalk. This is a fun run and the above distances can be chosen based on the guardians discretion. Each athlete will receive a finishers medal, goodie bag, and bib number. All proceeds will benefit the the induction of mileage clubs in Georgia/Alabama school systems.

Every Saturday Uptown Columbus hosts "Market Days". This is an open market downtown full of arts and crafts, fresh veggies/fruit, coffee, and baked goods.
In the event of inclement weather? There are no "rain dates" for TriColumbusGA events. If the weather conditions are hazardous, Race Management has the right to change, eliminate parts of the course, or delay up to a point. However, if it is deemed to dangerous to race, the event will be canceled and there will be no refunds. Of course, since we are athletes ourselves, we will do everything in our power to have the event, but your safety is of our utmost concern.
