Pilates strengthens the core muscles of the pelvis, abdomen and back to improve balance, trunk strength and flexibility, body awareness, and whole body movement. Mat Pilates exercises are performed in a controlled, precise manner and require concentration. The slow and graceful movements make this format accessible for most regardless of age or fitness level. The benefit of Pilates mat work is that it can be done anywhere and with just an exercise mat. Props (provided by the instructor) such as the Pilates ring (or Magic Circle) and mini-balls are used to challenge strength and stability. Bring a yoga mat.
