Provides entry-level participants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over. Participants who successfully complete the Lifeguarding course receive an American Red Cross certificate for oxygen administration, valid for 1 year and Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED, valid for 2 years.
- Minimum age: 15
- Swim 300 yards continuously; freestyle or breaststroke
- Tread water for 2 minutes using only legs
- Complete the following event in 1 minute & 40 seconds: starting in the water, swim 20 yards, surface dive to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, then exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
- Completed American Red Cross online coursework: Once you register for this class, you'll receive an email from the instructor with links and login information. You must complete the online portion of this class before the first classroom meeting.
If you are hired on with Widefield Parks & Recreation, the $150 fee will be reimbursed after 150 hours of work!
