Multi-sensory musical, movement or ensemble sessions are tailored to the ages or abilities of group members. Sessions are fun, engaging and structured to give participants opportunities to learn and practice social and communication skills. No previous music therapy experience is required. For younger children or individuals with limited language, objectives may include developing responses such as remaining with the group, increasing attention to peers, sharing and/or turn-taking. Older clients may address skills such as group decision-making, problem solving, negotiation and on-topic conversation. Parents with small children may enjoy creative quality time with their young child while addressing important social, speech and language, motor, play and/or/cognitive developmental goals! Parents, caregivers or nannies participate as active partners and may receive coaching in music experiences for home use. An assessment for clients new to The Music Settlement is required prior to registration. Call (216) 421-5806, xt. 141 for more information.
