What's Included

The main focus of Hebrew School is to teach students to read Hebrew, learn core Shabbat service prayers and understand the meaning of those prayers. To achieve that goal, the school curriculum focuses on learning Hebrew through prayer. A lovely service ends each school day. Students participate in leading the prayers and are treated to an engaging story/discussion during the service. The secondary focus of our Hebrew School is to inspire the students to love conversational Hebrew. Each week, the students spend twenty minutes participating in an exciting conversational Hebrew “experience” in the social hall. Students walk, run, jump and spin around the room in response to Hebrew instructions given by the teacher. The teacher speaks only Hebrew during the session. There is a lot of laughter and fun that takes place during the session. Students with special needs participate in our Hebrew Opportunities Program (HOP). HOP provides one-on-one teaching of the Hebrew School curriculum to those students better suited to a program where they learn in an individualized manner. Determination of suitability for this program is done through conferencing between parents, the Hebrew School Coordinator, and the School Director. Each HOP student proceeds at his or her own pace. Students who begin Hebrew School in 5th grade or later are part of our Kabbalat Mitzvah program. These students are given the opportunity to study Hebrew with their peers and to become Bar/Bat Mitzvah upon completion of the program.
