What's Included

Instructor: Hannah Schultz, www.hannahschultz.com In this class, student of all levels will gain confidence using fiber reactive dyes (Procion), with all the color options they have to offer. Students will learn a variety of dyeing techniques such as immersion dyeing, direct application, tie-dye, hand painting, and basics on dyes, chemicals, and additives while focusing on how to mix and blend colors to get your desired effects. All techniques will be learned through fun projects that students can take home with them. Procion dyes are amongst the more eco-friendly of all the synthetic dyes. Plus they also have the best light- and wash-fastness. They're super versatile and can be used with a variety of fibers, such as cotton, linen, rayon, and silk. -- Our classes are designed to focus on a learned skill rather than a final product. At TAC, our mission is to provide skills and knowledge for a lifetime! All materials for sample making and learning the technique are included. Any additional materials will need to be supplied by the student based on their vision. Weekend Intensive students have access to Open Studio time for free for up to a week after the class, to put their new knowledge to practice.

About This Organizer

Textile Arts Center aspires to unify and empower the textile community, and advocate for the handmade.

Textile Arts Center (TAC) is a NYC-based resource facility dedicated to raising awareness and understanding of textiles through creative educational programs for children and adults. At TAC, we aspire to unify the textile community and advocate for the handmade by providing accessible, skills-based classes that reinvigorate engagement with traditional crafts. Techniques like weaving, sewing, and dyeing are practical, connective, and process-driven -- common denominators for designers, artists, and creative practitioners around the world. Because these activities are so widely used, they help to foster community and bring creativity back into our daily lives. They are part of our collective history and vital to our ongoing expressions of design, art, and culture.
