The private class begins with a brief description of the craft of pottery. Using examples, the instructor will introduce the stages of clay, the firing and learning processes. After a brief description, there is a wheel throwing demonstration. Students will gather around as a basic bowl is thrown. After the demonstration, students will sit down and try their hand at the potter's wheel. The instructor will walk around the room and help students as they make their pieces. Come with an open mind, as some pieces will collapse, and some will survive!! Students can dress comfortably and be prepared to get dirty during the class! If students are curious about handbuilding, we are happy to do a handbuilding demo while other students are getting started on the wheel. The class is two hours and cleanup begins 2 hours after the class begins and takes at least 30 minutes. Cost is $350, there is a $100 cancellation fee if the class is cancelled less than five days before the event. Each student may keep their pieces, and pieces will be labelled with names and colors at the end of class. There is a $10 charge per piece if students would like their pots glazed and fired. The classroom can accommodate up to 8 people throwing on the wheel at once. If more than 8 attend, the wheels can be shared. The max capacity for this event is 10 people.
