What's Included

ADULT LESSONS are taught to the Beginner (level 1) and Intermediate/Advanced (level 2) levels in 420s. Class sizes are limited to ensure close interaction with the instructors, so please register early. Please note that separation into Level 1 and Level 2 will be done the day of the lesson; there is no need to specify your level for the registration process! 420 Level 1: A two-day intensive class for beginning sailors providing 10 hours of teaching including chalk board explanations, sailing demonstrations and on-the-water instruction. Along with this course, you will receive a simple sailing book that you will be able to keep. This book will allow you to refresh your memory on some of the topics covered in the class! Students will learn the basics of sailing: rigging, launching, basic maneuvering, capsize and rescue, and landing. After successful completion of this course, students will be able to become a summer member and go sailing during open sailing hours in fair weather. 420 Level 2: A two-day intensive class for intermediate level sailors. This class is also 10 hours of teaching including chalk board explanations, sailing demonstrations and on-the-water instruction. This class will focus on more on-the-water skills and is expected to have significantly fewer land activities. Students will become more comfortable with sailing in many conditions and, depending on conditions, may gain enough experience to go sailing on their own. After successful completion of this course, students will be able to become a summer member and go sailing during open sailing hours. *You MUST know how to swim to register for any Adult Lesson*

About This Organizer

The Yale Corinthian Yacht Club (YCYC or "yic-yic") is a public sailing facility used primarily by the Yale community and area residents. Located on Short Beach in Branford, Connecticut, it is the nation's oldest collegiate sailing organization, dating back to 1881, and is home to the Yale sailing team. Today, the yacht club offers a fleet of twenty high perfomance 420s (a 14 foot, two-person, self-rescuing dinghy). The club's sailing area is based in Short Beach Cove, a well-protected inlet of the Long Island Sound. YCYC offers group lessons for both adults and kids. Weekend lessons for adults are taught throughout the summer. More experienced sailors may enjoy the excitement of sailing in big waves on the Long Island Sound. The warm and shallow waters of Short Beach allow students to tear across the water in no time. As always, YCYC offers top-of-the-line junior instruction. Beginning, intermediate, and advanced kids will enjoy learning from our experienced staff of top collegiate sailors.
