This exciting and interactive class is for history buffs and those interested in local-area historic real estate alike! Maybe you own or are considering buying a house in one of Bowling Green's several historic districts, Shake Rag, College Hill, etc. or live in an older home elsewhere in Warren or surrounding counties and want to know more about where you live. We will look at historic homes from around the eastern half of the country and show real examples here in Bowling Green. We will discuss places that have been abandoned for decades and then saved from the wrecking ball, or homes which have been continuously occupied and altered to suit more modern tastes, while working through additions and updates to discover what your house may have looked like when originally built. Using power point and images of similar houses, we will discover what your house might have looked like, and when it may have been built. In addition to exploring the history of these properties, participants are encouraged to share information about their historic property for exploration and discussion. This class will be provided in a seminar style and therefore, will be very interactive. Some of the classes will be organically led by both students and the instructor, meaning some of the conversations and topics will be directed by student questions and interest through facilitated discussion.
