Ceramics: Wheel-Throwing/ Beginner +
Instructor: Chrys Lewis
This class is an introduction to the exciting process of wheel-thrown ceramics.
Developed for students with little or no clay experience, the class covers basic
skills at the potter’s wheel for creating functional work. Demonstrations will cover
wedging, centering, and forming shapes such as vases, mugs, bowls and plates.
Basic decorating and glazing techniques will be taught as well as more advanced
techniques such as attaching multiple parts to one object, throwing lids, and surface
decoration as students progress.

Basic Materials to bring to class:
- Basic Pottery Tool Kit (sold on Amazon.com or Michael's)
- Apron (or wear something that can get dirty)
- Small plastic bucket
- Rags
- Gloves
- Dust mask
BBAC Ceramics Studio Policies/Procedures BBAC Ceramics Studio Policies/Procedures Ceramics students are required to
follow all department policies and procedures. Masks are recommended when
in the BBAC facility. Only work made at BBAC using clay from BBAC, can be glazed
and fired at the BBAC.
Ceramics Open Studio Information - No Instruction
Open Studio time is available for current term students registered for a ceramics class
of 12 hours or more. Students can sign up beginning the first week of classes and throughout
the term on a rotation basis. Open studios are not intended to take the place of a production
studio and are intended to further the education experience.
Purchasing Clay at the BBAC
One 25 lb. bag of clay is included with your class. BBAC offers the service of purchasing
additional clay (one bag at a time) at the beginning of your class time.
• Limit is three, 25 lb. bags per term
• Each 25 lb. bag of Wheat Stone is $18
• Each 25 lb. bag of Porcelain is $21
