About This Activity
Instructor: Becky Coffey This is a full year course. Exploring US History is an interactive class which leads the student through the exciting and fascinating story of how the most powerful nation on Earth came to be. The main events of how this nation was settled will be covered, one chapter per week, from the very beginning of the original peoples of this land all the way to the present. Students will be led on this journey into American history from a Biblical perspective. The class will encourage students to discover God’s purpose through critical thinking and discussion. The ideas and principles of the founders of this country will be explored and applied to how we think about our country today. Projects will include a historical timeline of events and people, a portfolio of US presidents and a genealogy project. Several short papers and Wiki projects will also be included throughout the year. Students will complete eight tests as well as weekly review quizzes. Students will also read and discuss historical fiction books throughout the year. Materials Needed: The American Republic, by Rachel C. Larson, PhD, Third Edition. BJU Press, 2010 The American Republic Student Activity Manual, Third Edition, BJU Press, 2009 Timeline materials as introduced by the instructor.
