What's Included

In this quick, intensive course students will learn the basics of indigo dyeing and simple shibori. Indigo is a plant based natural dye with an interesting history, rich blue color and unique process and qualities. After achieving a basic understanding to use an indigo vat students will fold and dip our fabric to learn the process of shibori, similar to tie-dye. Students will leave with their own unique garments or textile pieces and the knowledge to set up their own indigo vat at home! Weather permitting, this class will take place both inside and out. Saturday, September 24 12-4pm from 12-4pm $20 Materials Fee payable to the teacher on the first day of class Instructor bio: Emily Gui is an experimental printmaker and multi-media artist. She creates uncanny images of real and imagined spaces that play with perspective, form, and subject. Her work often pushes the boundaries of traditional printmaking techniques. Gui graduated from Bard College in 2012 where she focused in printmaking. She is the co-creator of CAMP (Collaborative Arts Mobility Project) Residency, a new, annual gathering that brings together artists across disciplines in new locations. In 2015 she was selected by the Print Club of New York to exhibit and speak at their annual Print Exhibition.
