What's Included

If you want to get your work out into the world you need to have an artist packet. This packet is the foundation for your application to grad school, grants/residencies, gallery exhibitions, etc. This course will provide an overview of the components you need for such a packet including: a portfolio of images, an artist statement, a paragraph bio and an exhibition history/CV/bio. There will also be discussion of how to put this packet together in a compelling, professional way. If time permits we’ll also briefly cover social media and other professional tools that will help you develop your career. Tuesdays, March 7 and March 14 from 6:30-8:30pm Instructor bio: Lisa Solomon received her BA in Art Practice from UC Berkeley in 1995 and her MFA from Mills College in 2003. Ms. Solomon’s work has recently been featured in a monograph entitled Hand/Made published by MIEL press. In 2013 she authored a book on embroidery published by Quarry press entitled Knot Thread Stitch. Ms. Solomon has a new book of illustrations due out in 2015, 20 Ways to Draw a Chair and 44 other Magnificent Every Day Objects. Her drawings and installations have been featured at numerous national and international venues. She regularly teaches Art at colleges in the Bay Area – currently San Francisco State University. She has also taught at UC Berkeley, Mills College, CCA, and Cal State East Bay. Ms. Solomon was a member of the Curatorial Board of the Richmond Art Center from 2006-2008. She was a resident at Kala Art Institute where she received a Sustainable Artist Residency Award for artists with children. She will also be a resident at Irving Street Project in San Francisco in the Fall of 2015.
