Once you end your dribble, you cannot dribble again. Your are literally nailed to the spot where you have ended it. This situation can provide the opponent guarding you with an advantage. Knowing you cannot dribble, the defender can be all over you, making it very diffcult for you to pass or shoot. If you are outside your shooting range, your opponent can drop off to help teammates.
To avoid this situation, end your dribble only at the moment you choose to execute a pass or a shot. When advancing the ball with a dribble, you can stop moving, but keep dribbling. For example, you start to drive towards the hoop. Suddenly, there is congestion ahead. Stop, but keep your dribble.
Remember, end your dribble only when you intend to pass or shoot immediately after ending it.
