Located outside the pretty seaside town of Bantry, the Mealagh Valley Ring course takes runners on an undulating route – well to be honest undulating slopes, hills and some steep bits! However, the wonderful meandering Valley and beautiful views will take your mind off the challenging run. You will see the best of West Cork scenery and some other oddities; keep your eyes peeled for the old airplane fuselage that serves as a house for one of the Valley’s residents.
To quote one participant “…….. This course had just about everything except flat sections!”
But don’t be put off; the run attracts elite athletes, fun runners and walkers alike.
Race Director Geraldine O’Sulllivan says:
“We encourage all to participate in the ‘Ring’ run. From walkers to new runners who are part of community initiatives such as Fit 4 Life, to elite runners who use it as a challenging training run. We want to encourage all to get out and get fitter. It is a great way of seeing our beautiful West Cork Scenery.”

Event details and schedule
1 Start and Finish lines are not at the same point on the course. The Start line is at Ards (approx 1 km from the Finish Line) and the Finish Line is at the Community Hall. Courses are clearly marked and marshalls are on hand for directions and for your safety. Please follow any instructions the Marshalls give you. The Road is not closed so be careful , but they are small roads and local residents are aware of the Race!
2) Number collection will be on the morning of the Race and will close 30 mins before the start times of the races: 10mile walkers at 9.30am, 5km Walkers 10.30am . 10Mile Run/5KM run at 10.30am . ALL PARTICIPANTS (WALKERS AND RUNNERS) MUST COLLECT A RACE NUMBER AT THE REGISTRATION OFFICE)
PARKING can be up to 20 minutes from the registration office and then allow 7 minutes to get to the Start Line. Please allow enough time to park and collect your race numbers and be at the start line on time! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
3) Bag Drop – we will have a bag drop at the registration office, bags will then be taken to the Community Hall (Finish Line ) for collection . Please do not leave anything of value in your bags – we will look after the bags but they will not be locked in a safe!!
4) Race Prizes for 10 mile Road Race:
1st , 2nd , 3rd Man and Women.
!st place in each of the following age categories:
35-39 , 40,-44 45-49 , 50-54, 55-59, 60+ years old for Ladies
40-44,45-49 , 50-54,55-59 , 60+ years old for Men
1st Junior Male and Female.
Course Record, Male and Female.
Toilets will be available at Registration and at the start line.
6) 3 Water Stations during 10mile Walk/run course
1 Water Station at 3km on the 5km course.
Bananas, Oranges and Water will be available for all Participants at the end of each race.
