We are so sorry to announce that we must cancel this Saturday's race due to the inclement weather. Heeding the warnings of the upcoming storm, Loudoun County has notified us of a reassignment in Officers and support staff. The safety of our runners, attendees and volunteers is paramount to us and we do not want to jeopardize the safety of anyone given the weather predictions for this weekend. We are working with Loudoun County to see if we can reschedule the event in the next few weeks. We are sincerely apologetic for any inconvenience and we wish you a safe weekend inside. Please emails us at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions or concerns.
The 3rd Annual One Sparrow 10K/5K Run will take place on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at 7AM, starting at Capital Community Church across from Ashburn Elementary School. This is a USATF certified course passing through beautiful Ashburn Village. Funds from the race will go towards our current initiatives, which include developing an orphan children’s village and opening a distance learning center for youth and adults in Limbe, Haiti in Spring 2016.
This USATF certified 10K/5K course winds through beautiful Ashburn Village. Modest hills and long straightaways make this course somewhat challenging, but not difficult for novice runners and walkers. The One Sparrow 10K/5K run is fun course for all of the family. This year the course features water stops along the way.
Immediately following the race there will be a Finish Line After-Party featuring food from some local restaurants, fun activities for the kids, and win some great raffle prizes!
Here are a few of the activities happening at the Finish Line After-Party:
- Live DJ and Music
- Food Trucks
- Kids Fitness Village
- Moon Bounce
- Face Painting and Tattoo Station
- Photo Booth
- Silent Auction with great prizes from vendors such as the Ritz Carlton, Washington Redskins, Nationals, Capitals, and Wizards
As an organization, our goal is to raise money through raising public awareness for our local and global initiatives while providing family friendly activities to our local community. In April 2013, One Sparrow hosted the first annual One Sparrow 5k /1mile Fun Run in Ashburn, VA. There was over 400 registered runners, 150 volunteers from various organizations in the community; to include the Loudoun County High School Junior ROTC unit and the Briar Woods High School National Honor Society. The event was attended by almost 700 people over the course of the morning and raised $9,000 profit. In April 2014, the first spring One Sparrow Kids Consignment Sale was hosted in Ashburn, VA and was also well received by the local community with over 200 shoppers over the course of the day.
Through these types of events, One Sparrow has begun to brand itself in the community as a great organization that puts on friendly, inviting, well-executed, well-organized, and well-attended events. Now entering our third year for our events, we have extended our 5K race to a new 10K race to meet the requests of our local running community and provide another fantastic long distance course for Ashburn Village.
Funds from the race will go towards our current initiatives, which include developing an orphan children’s village and opening a distance learning center for youth and adults in Limbe, Haiti in Spring 2016. We envision both the children’s village and distance learning center serving local children and young adults, giving them the tools to realize their full potential. Additionally, One Sparrow is partnering with H.O.M.E. International to provide homes for the street children in Guatemala. So far, we have raised almost $14,000 towards our goal, and with your help, the 2015 Running Home for Haiti 10K Race will allow us to reach our goal of $40,000 and enable us to purchase a piece of property for the children’s village in late Summer 2016.
One Sparrow is a non-profit organization incorporated in the Commonwealth of Virginia and has been granted 501(c)(3) tax exempt status with the IRS. All donations made to One Sparrow are Tax exempt.
