About This Activity

Join us for first Fall Double.  Because we have two fundraising virtual races going at the same time we are offering a discount when you sign up for both using our Fall Double category.

The first event is our 3rd annual Move 4 A Cure 5-5-5 virtual race sponsored by Running On Air and benefiting the PCD Foundation.   Participants receive a lung shapped medal with a heart on a spinner in the middle.  This allows the heart to be on the left or right side of the lungs.  About half of those with PCD have some form of organ reversal, such as the heart on the right side.  The medal comes with a built in stand so you can display it on a desk or table or hang it with the ribbon.  Every registration will also get a bib number specifically designed for this event.  We also have a limited number of PCD bags, luggage tags and pens that will be mailed with the medals on a first come first served basis.

The second event is our 2nd Running On Air virtual race.  Our founder is participating in her first marathon, the New York City marathon, as part of the National Organization for Rare Disorder's (NORD) Running for Rare team.  A portion of the profits from this event will go toward her marathon fundraising efforts, which go to NORD's Undiagnosed Diseases Program; helping individuals to receive a diagnosis from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).  Participants will receive a dragonly spinner medal.  The dragonfly in the center is double sided and spins. Every registration will also get a bib number specifically designed for this event.

You can sign up for just one of these events or save $5 off the price of both individual registrations when you register through the Fall Double category.

Share your event pictures and event details on https://www.facebook.com/RunningOnAirO2/ and use #RareDiseaseDay. We'll share to inspire others to make a difference and have fun in the process.

T-shirts with this year's logos are available on our Spreadshirt shop: www.shop.Spreadshirt.com/RunningOnAir

PCD stands for primary ciliary dyskinesia.  It is a rare disease with only 1000 confirmed diagnosis in North America.  The PCD Foundation's mission is to improve the quality of life of those affected by PCD and to develop the means to find a cure.

There are nearly 7000 rare diseases.  A disease is considered rare in the US when there are less than 200,000 people with a diagnosis.  Your participation in this event will help to make a difference for the more than 25 million Americans living with a rare disease.

You can choose how far you want to walk or run to complete these events.  With the Move 4 A Cure 5-5-5 you can do 5 meters (for those that have real mobility challenges), 5K, 5 miles or more.  You can do the distance all at once or do a little bit each day.  October is PCD awareness month.  If you did a tenth of a mile a day that gives you a 5K.

For the Running On Air event you can do either a 5K, 10K, half marathon or marathon.

These events are organized by Running On Air, which is not affiliated with NORD or the PCD Foundation.

Event details and schedule

As a virtual event, you can complete these races anytime in October or November.  The distance is your choice.

Medals will be shipped mid to late November.

One of Running On Air's missions is to raise awareness of rare diseases.  The founder, Mary Kitlowski, and her sister, both have a rare disease called Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD).  There are less than 1000 people diagnosed with PCD in North America, although it is estimated that around 25,000 people in the US may have the disease.

NORD is a patient advocacy organization dedicated to individuals with rare diseases and the organizations that serve them.

The PCD Foundation is a patient-focused organization, whose mission is to provide the leadership and resources needed to support increased research, accelerated diagnosis, improved health and, ultimately, a cure for primary ciliary dyskinesia
