Thinking of auditioning for Hamlet? Is Juliet your dream role? Or do you want to ace your English Lit class or raise your act score? Learn how to speak Shakespeare's words and create a powerful relationship with Shakespeare’s text during Weathervane's Shakepeare Intensive. Student actors will study Shakespeare's most ardent, zealous and passionate characters through acting technique, text analysis and voice work using Kristin Linklater’s approach to voice training for Actors (see Freeing the Natural Voice, Drama Book Publishers). Weathervane Playhouse’s Core Classes

Weathervane Playhouse’s core class curriculum provides every student with exceptional, consistent, dramatic training. In addition to the core curriculum, each age appropriate class provides additional skills to enrich our strong foundation. All classes have been developed to meet the State academic benchmarks within the applied Fine Art.

Core class content will include:

The study of theatre as an art form, and how it compares with other methods of telling a story (television, film, books, etc…)

The roles and responsibilities of actors, directors, designers and technicians.

Stage movement skills including: facing the audience, “cheating out,” using the upstage hand and using body language to communicate thoughts and feelings of a character.

Vocal projection and diction techniques for speaking loudly and clearly.

Stage directions and theatre vocabulary.

Methods for working in an ensemble and working as a group to present a performance at the end of each session.

Memorization techniques.

Dramatic exploration and creative expression through improvisation games and/or script work.

Theater history and/or historical, cultural and social contexts of a specific time period.

Character study through comparisons of story situations and their relationships to real life experiences.
