EXPANDED CROSS COUNTRY (NORDIC) SKIING
Grades 1 - 4
***MANDATORY Parent-Skier Informational Meeting, Monday, Dec. 3rd at 6:00pm. ALL Parents must attend prior to first ski session. Healthy Hometown Ski Equipment Rental Night - same night.
The York Parks and Recreation Department will be offering a 6-week long cross country (Nordic) skiing program to children in grades 1-4. Group size will be limited to keep individual attention/focus within each group. Volunteer parent skiers are encouraged. The focus of the program is to have fun on Nordic skis, learn basic skiing skills and develop an appreciation for Nordic skiing. During each session, skiers receive instruction, ski together in groups, and play games on skis. Skiers are grouped together based on their experience level which enables the kids to always be comfortable with their peer group.
The goal is to empower skiers, some who've who have never been on skis, to fully enjoy the sport for many years to come.
Additionally, skiers are encouraged to join the Agamenticus Ski Club. Agamenticus Ski Club (ASC) is a new regional ski club which will offer additional ski coaching, ski programming, events and trips for regional skiers while providing locally groomed act ski trails for the greater York community to ski and practice. Becoming a member supports this effort and offers additional coached ski sessions to further improve skiing skills & technique, camaraderie/friendship with other local youth skiers, and guidance/linkage into regional youth cross country ski racing opportunities. Please see the Agamenticus Ski Club website at: http://agamenticusski.org for more information about membership. A list of club programs will be posted by December 2012. Agamenticus Ski Club Membership of $25 - optional.
Laura Creagan, will be leading the 6-week long session. Laura is a Professional Ski Instructor of America and New England Nordic Ski Association Level II - Certified Ski Coach. She is ACSM certified Personal Trainer. Laura has over her 15 years of cross country ski coaching experience in Maine and New Hampshire. Laura has a very supportive attitude, a willingness share and learn, and a desire to have fun on the snow.
Scott Doughty will be joining Laura Creagan in offering this year's program. Scott was a USA Biathlete Skier and skied on the UNH Ski Team.
