About This Activity

Winterthur’s large and small pony races are named for long-time rider and equestrian, Alison Hershbell. Alison’s parents, Charlene and Dave, have dedicated many years volunteering at the Winterthur Point-to-Point, where Alison once rode. It is an honor to recognize her outstanding contributions.
Prizes

Medals will be awarded to the winner of each of the two divisions, and prizes go to "best turned out horse" in each race sponsored by Outback Clothing Company.

Entries

Winterthur will be taking entries for both the Small and Large Pony Races until Tuesday, April 30 at 11:00am, when it promptly closes. No post entries will be allowed. Contact Jill Abbott at 302.218.7529 with any questions or to register offline.

Conditions

Small Pony race is open to ponies under 13.0 hands, children under 16 years old as of 1/1/13, catch weights, 3 entries to fill. Large Pony race is open to ponies under 13.0 hands – 14.2 hands , children under 16 years old as of 1/1/13, catch weights, 3 entries to fill. If pony is questioned, the owner is responsible for verification.

Insurance and indemnification

You will be required to show proof of insurance and to sign an indemnity agreement at the time you claim your number cloth on race day. No exceptions to this rule.

Race Procedures

Please be on the grounds by 10:30 am to check in with pony race coordinator Charlene Hershbell at the Tower. Paddock time will be 11:30 am for both the Small and Large Pony Races. Post time for the small ponies will be 12:00 noon. Post time for the large ponies will be immediately after the end of the Small Pony Race.

Parking and admission

All parking hangtags must be clearly displayed in your automobile. Admission wristbands must be worn by participants at all times.

Lunch

Those with credentials to the Horseman Hospitality Tent will be admitted for lunch. Each jockey is welcome to have lunch in this tent with two guests of his/her choice. A limited amount of additional guest wristbands may be purchased for $15 each when registering for the race. Contact Jill Abbott at 302.218.7529 with any questions or to register offline.
