Our speaker this year is Jack Daniels, PhD., one of running's most revered coaches. Daniels won silver and bronze Olympic medals (Melbourne 1956 and Rome 1960), was twice U.S. national champion, and competed in three world championships in modern pentathlon. After earning an undergraduate degree from Montana, and during his pentathlon competitive years, Daniels studied in Stockholm and then earned a master's degree from Oklahoma and a PhD in exercise physiology from Wisconsin. His research has focused on endurance sports and the effects of altitude on performance. Daniels has taught and coached in Oklahoma, Texas, Hawaii, New Hampshire, Oregon, New York, North Carolina, and Arizona. During his college coaching career, his athletes won 30 individual national championships; and 130 of his runners won All-American honors. The NCAA named him "Women's Cross County Coach of the 20th Century." Daniels is the author of Daniels' Running Formula, published by Human Kinetics. He has written more than 50 scientific articles involving elite athletes.
