Lois Ann Veitenheimer Luig was an avid walker and runner who was always adamant about health and nutrition. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, favorite aunt, great aunt and wonderful friend. She loved to travel, and was always the planner of get-togethers. She loved life and all that it offered.
Her time with us tragically ended on January 3, 2013 while walking in the early morning with a friend. Her favorite phrase was, “If I can do it, you can do it.” At the age of 53, she wouldn’t let anyone use ‘old age’ as an excuse not to get in shape.
We are organizing this health walk/run in Windthorst on November 2nd in her memory as it would have been her birthday on November 4th. At the beginning, we wanted to honor her passing by organizing this race FOR her. Then we were reminded that Lois would never want us to do something for her. So, we decided to do the planning, organizing and running WITH her.
The hope is that “Run With Lois” will become an annual event with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society - Relay for Life. Lois was instrumental in establishing our family’s team, “Fishing for a Cure.” Her leadership in the event has helped raise several thousand dollars each year in the memory of her father.
