Joy of Drawing: Focus on Animals and Peoplew/Barbara ZanelliA ten (10) session course

Designed for students who took First Steps, Joy of Drawing in the Spring, or already have a grasp of basic drawing techniques, this course takes you further into form, structure, and expression while keeping at your pace. Students will learn key concepts such as basic figure and portrait drawing, animal drawing, detailed rendering, quick sketching and perspective. Each class features a directed exercise designed to be used for more complex subject matter. This class is intended for those who are looking to take their drawing to the next level. Explore outdoor drawing on at least one day of class.
What you will learn:1. Make detailed rendered value drawing of real objects2. Explore different shading techniques3. Gain more understanding of the structure of the human and animal head and body through studying basic anatomy 4. Begin to develop an understanding of decisive, quick sketching5. Confidence and comfort with the materials

Supply List
• Drawing pad (white paper) 9 x 12 or whatever size you have already• Pencils 2H, HB, 2B, 6B, 8B or a full set• 1 blending stump, tortillion or a few q-tips- 3 erasers: 1 kneaded, 1 pink, 1 Mono Zero • Sandpaper or flint paper (for getting a point on a pencil)- X-acto knife (for sharpening pencil)• Ruler (minimum 6”)- Vellum tracing paper pad 9 x 12- Viewfinder with a grid if possible- Binder with sheet protectors for handouts, or folder or binder clip- Optional: Sennelier fixative for graphite to protect drawings from smearing- Optional: scissors and drafting tape
