Description
The 2012 Watermans Paddle for Humanity heads to Tahoe on Saturday, July 7, 2012. Tahoe is a new addition to the series. The event features the 5K Fun Paddle, 10K Paddle and the addition of a new event -- the Chuck Patterson Signature Series Rally Race - dubbed the CPR.
Event/Race Descriptions
5K Fun Paddle - WPA Short Course (Estimated time: 30-minutes to 45-minutes)
This is a fun race, close to shore and a great chance to experience racing in a low-pressure environment. Every racer gets a finishers medal and the 5K results will be applied to World Paddle Association (WPA) rankings for short course. This is a timed event.
10K Paddle - WPA Long Course (Estimated time: 60-minutes to 1.5-hours)
This race is for the more seasoned paddler wishing to test their skill, endurance and strategy against paddlers from all over. The 10K results will be applied to World Paddle Association (WPA) rankings for long course. This is a timed event.
WPA (World Paddleboard Association)
The following age divisions will receive points for rankings to qualify for both Regional and World Championships in both the 5K Paddle and the 10k Paddle for registered WPA Athletes
Recognized WPA divisions for these races include:
a) 17 under on all board classes and gender
b) 18-29 on all board classes and gender
c) 30-39 on all board classes and gender
d) 40-49 on all board classes and gender
e) 50+ on all board classes and gender
Chuck Patterson Signature Series Rally Race (Estimated time: 45-minutes to 1-hour)
The CP Rally will consist of 3 laps for the men and 2 laps for the women around a multi-discipline course. The laps will include some kind of additional physical and/or mental challenge and be designed to challenge a paddlers physical performance. The alternate portion of the race will be unique to each location and incorporate challenges specific to the region. This is a timed event so train hard, play hard and be ready to have a good time.
Watermans Official Charity Program
Twenty percent (20%) of each paid entry fee goes to the organization that you select when you register. In addition, net event proceeds will be divided among these organizations.
Participating non-profits: Best Day Foundation, Keep Paddlin, Love146, LUNGevity, Navy SEAL Foundation, Ocean of Hope Campaign of the Sarcoma Alliance and Surfrider Foundation.
Participating associations: Lake Tahoe Paddleboard Association, Lake Tahoe Waterman Association and San Clemente State Lifeguard Association.
