About This Activity

The Public Service 5K will kick off Public Service Recognition Week 2014. Run, walk, stroll, whatever your pace, government employees, their families and running enthusiasts are invited to participate and show their support and appreciation for our country’s dedicated public servants. Proceeds will benefit the Federal Employee Education and Assistance Fund (FEEA), a non-profit organization devoted to helping civilian federal and postal employees through scholarships and emergency assistance.  To make an additional donation to FEEA, please visit www.feea.org/Give.

Event schedule and times

2014 Public Service 5K

9:00am - Sunday, May 4, 2014

Anacostia Park, Washington DC

Registration: Advance registration is required. National Park Service regulations prohibits race day registration.

Packet Pick-Up: Swing by City Sports Gallery Place (715 7th St NW, Washington, DC 20001) on Saturday, May 3rd from 11am to 4pm. This means you won't have to arrive as early (more zzz's) on Sunday and helps us ensure we can start promptly.  City Sports will be offering Public Service 5K participants 20% off during packet pick-up!

Start Time: Race day packet pick-up will begin at 7:30 a.m. Please note that road closures will begin at 8:30 a.m. for our race (which will prevent you from driving to the start/finish area). The 5K will begin promptly at 9:00 a.m.

Directions: The start/finish area will be at the northern end of the park adjacent to the Skating Pavilion. Driving directions and a park map are available at the Anacostia Park website

FREE Parking is plentiful at Anacostia Park. Please park your vehicle at the northern end of the park near the Skating Pavilion; please note that you must arrive before 8:30 a.m. The closest Metro station (Potomac Ave on the Orange-Blue lines) is about a 20-minute walk from the start/finish area.

Weather: We will host the race rain or shine. Of course, we are planning on clear skies and sunny weather for race day!

Timing: Our event will be professionally timed by RaceDC Timing using the ChronoTrack system (B-tag) which automatically records your time as you cross the finish line.

Strollers & Children are welcome to participate! Our event will take place on a closed course (thanks to the U.S. Park Police). If you would like to run with a stroller, we have a few requirements: you must start in the back, you may not weave through packs of runners, and you must always yield the right of way to other runners. As long as you drive responsibly, you shouldn’t have a problem bringing junior along for the ride.  Children in strollers do not need to register and should not wear a timing tag if catching a ride.  Children who plan to run on their own little legs should be registered and will receive a t-shirt (XS available!) and timing tag.

Bag Drop: We will have a bag drop available, which will be monitored by volunteers. We cannot be responsible for any valuables that are lost or stolen. Leave items at your own risk.

Dogs: Dogs will not be permitted on the course.

Bathrooms: Restrooms will be open and available near the start/finish area.

Water Stop: We will have a water stop at the halfway mark that will be staffed by volunteers.

Headphones: Our event's RRCA insurance policy dictates that we cannot sanction headphone use. Runners who choose to run while wearing headphones must assume full responsibility for their use. They must be able to hear all instructions and directions given by race course personnel and be aware of their surroundings at all time. We understand that many runners feel that running with their music helps them stay focused and motivated, so it's ultimately your decision.

Post-Race Festivities: We will have music playing before, during, and after the race. Water, fruit, and other light snacks will be available at the finish line.  We will also have awards for the top finishers in the following age groups: 14 and under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, and 60+.

Volunteers: The success of our event rests squarely with our volunteers. We need help with registration, safety, the water stop, and clean up consisting of two shifts (7am-9am and 9am-11am) Please contact us by sending an email to agensch@feea.org if you would like to help out on May 4th - every volunteer will receive a free event t-shirt!

See you on May 4th!!
