Want to be a Citizen Scientist? Join our Monarch Habitat Project for adventure in the garden. We’ll map the Janney Butterfly Garden. We’ll create a Monarch Habitat by planting vital plants such as Milkweed, providing water and nectar plants for migrating Monarchs, and reporting on our project every week to Journey North. As Citizen Scientists, we will create a journal and monitor migration, record sightings of adults, search for eggs and larvae, and enter our findings on the Journey North network on a laptop. We’ll also spend time observing nature in our garden, taking a close look at lady beetles, birds, moths, butterflies, etc. In our lab, we’ll raise tiny Monarch caterpillars to become adult butterflies. It’s tricky, and not all of them make it, but we’ll learn Monarch Watch recommended practices. We’ll tag and release them to start their journey to Mexico. Gotta go, Gotta go, Gotta go to Mexico!
