What is ALS?

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that stikes an American every 90 minutes. And, every 90 minutes, we lose another American to it. People with ALS lose their ability to walk, speak, swallow, and breathe, yet in most cases the mind remains unaffected. ALS can strike anyone at any time.

What is The ALS Association?

The ALS Assoiation is the only national not-for-profit voluntary health organization dedicated solely to the fight against amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, ALS...Lou Gehrig's disease. Our mission...'To lead the fight to cure and treat ALS through global, cutting edge research, and to empower people with Lou Gehrig's Disease and their families to live fuller lives by providing them with compassionate care and support'.

How Do I Help by Walking?

The Walk to d'Feet ALS brings people and communities together, educates them about ALS, and most importantly, raises funds that help provide support services for people living with ALS and research into the cause, cure, and treatment of ALS. Walking is a great, visible way to tell others that you support the fight against ALS.

How are the funds raised by the walk used?

Serving a 32 county area The ALS Association, Greater Houston Chapter provides services to patients and families. These include: The ALS Clinic at Baylor College of Medicine; monthly support group meetings; equipment and assistive device loan programs; educaitonal symposiums; advocacy efforts on a local, state, and national level; and research.
