Join Oakland Michigan’s oldest and largest homeless shelter and rehabilitation center, Grace Centers of Hope for our 5th Annual ‘Walk a Mile in My Shoes’ 2010 Walkathon at the Detroit Zoo on Saturday June 5th, 2010. This event will unite the community to raise awareness and support that will directly benefit the children who are victims of homelessness and abuse.

The goal of this year’s walkathon is to raise $40,000 to fund the Children’s Program at Grace Centers of Hope in which provides social, recreational and educational opportunities for our homeless children. Some of these opportunities include; Child-care for Infants and Toddlers, Individual Counseling ,Children’s Learning Center, Mentorship and After-school tutoring, Food, Clothing and Shelter, Sports Equipment and Athletic Fees for School Sports Programs, Summer Camp (including YMCA and Youth Haven Ranch), Recreational Activities (movies, museum trips, zoo, etc.).

Individual registration for the ‘Walk a Mile in My Shoes’ Walkathon is $10 (ages 3-10) and $25 for 11years and older and includes an online customizable fundraising page and a Walk T-shirt. For Zoo admission and to Walk on the day of the event, participants must raise a minimum of $50 (ages 8 and older) that has to be submitted on or before June 5th, 2010. Each walker must have all pledges turned in by the day of the event upon registration. All donations over $25 are tax-deductible and are eligible for a receipt if contact information is provided. Grace Centers of Hope- Giving hope to the helpless since 1942, Grace Centers of Hope is Oakland County’s oldest and largest service provider for the homeless. Today, Grace Centers of Hope is considered one of the leading faith-based organizations in Southeastern Michigan, daily confronting issues of homelessness, addiction, poverty, abuse and spiritual emptiness. On any given night, Grace Centers of Hope provides transitional and emergency shelter to 150-200 men, women and children, in addition to serving over 127,000 meals each year.
