Girls on the Run is not your typical running program. This is a place where girls form bonds, learn how to communicate, how to be a good listener, and how to be better friends.
The girls in this program are taught to stand up for their values and to make good choices. Most importantly, this program provides young girls a safe place to have fun and to themselves.
The girls do run and train to complete a 5K at the end of the program which is open to the public. Mixed in with the running, the girls participate in activities for personal growth.
One session involves teaching the girls about managing their emotions and handling stress. They are taught various healthy methods of dealing with stress, and how to use running as a way to manage and work through complicated emotions.
If you have daughters, you may find yourself worrying about them constantly. The worries range from hoping that they will excel in school, to hoping that they will befriend good people, to hoping that they will be kind to others. Our collective hope is that our daughters grow to be strong, smart, and independent women who follow their dreams.
The Girls on the Run program is a strong step towards this. You can find more information about the Girls on the Run program and how you can become involved here.Sign up for you local Girls on the Run 5K.
