Description
Welcome to the First Annual Allyn Geoduck Derby! Digging for Geoducks on Washington State beaches is a tradition dating back hundreds of years and for many Washington families it is a favorite activity. Register your team of 2-4 diggers and compete for the largest (weight) and longest (shell length). Also, outfit your team with creative geoduck digging outfits and you will be eligible to win more prizes. Happy Geoduckin!
Rules
•Sign in for registered teams begins at 10 am and ends at 1pm. All geoduck must be submitted for judging by 4:00 pm
•All diggers must sign a liability waver as they sign in
•All diggers must have a recreational shellfish harvest permit
•Teams may dig at any publically owned beach, as permitted by State law.
•Team can be 2-4 people
•Only 1 geoduck may be entered for judging by each team
Judging
•Only live geoducks, mantles still attached to the shell, will be eligible for judging. All broken geoducks, as determined by the judging panel, will be disqualified.
•1st, 2nd and 3rd in each category (weight and shell length) will be posted on the results board.
•Prizes will be given for 6 winning teams
•Prizes will also be given for best digging costumes.
Dig Location Suggestion list
Geoduck derby teams may go to any public beach to dig, as allowed by State Fish and Wildlife and Department of Health. Experienced teams may have locations they already know about and plan to use. For others with less geoduckin' experience, we suggest the following public beaches.
