The Sandman Triathlon is a sprint triathlon consisting of a 750 m ocean swim, a 13 mile bike on a flat course and a 5K run on the Virginia Beach Boardwalk. Numerous age group awards, weight division awards as well as awards for the Open Division will be presented.
The minimum age for participation in this event is 18 years of age. No exceptions to this age restriction will be considered. PLEASE NOTE: THIS EVENT CONSISTS OF AN OCEAN SWIM. ATHLETES SHOULD BE AWARE THAT SURF CONDITIONS CAN SOMETIMES BE ROUGH AND SHOULD BE CAPABLE OF HANDLING THESE CONDITIONS BEFRORE DECIDING TO ENTER THIS EVENT. The 750 meter swim will be conducted in the direction of the current. This may require a beach run back to the transition area at the conclusion of the swim should he current be running north. The time limit for the swim is 45 minutes. The 14.5 mile bicycle portion of the event is an out-and-back course which is fast and flat. There are minimal turns on the course. The bike course time limit is 1 hour, 15 minutes. The 5k run is held entirely on the Virginia Beach Boardwalk and provides excellent spectator viewing opportunities. The out-and-back run features two water stops and has a time limit of 1 hour. The post-race party is one of the best around and features pleanty of food, beer and other beverages. Awards are presented at the post-race party and include Open Division, Age Group, Weight Division and Relay Team awards. Virginia Beach is a great place to race in late September as the crowds are gone and the water and weather are still warm.
