What's Included

This international conference gives artists, educators, researchers and scholars an opportunity to creatively engage, interact and share ideas that relate to the practice, philosophy and science of Deep Listening. Developed by composer and educator Pauline Oliveros, Deep Listening is an embodied meditative practice of enhancing one’s attention to listening. Deep Listening began over 40 years ago with Oliveros’ Sonic Meditations and organically evolved through performances, workshops and retreats. Deep Listening relates to a broad spectrum of other embodied practices across cultures and can be applied to a wide range of academic fields and disciplines. The conference will take place from July 10-12, 2014 culminating in a festival on July 13, 2014. Participants may additionally choose to participate in a pre-conference workshop from July 7-9 for an added fee. Participants may commute to campus daily or elect to stay on campus in dorm style housing for an additional fee. Registration fee includes entry to conference July 10-12 and the festival July 12-13, breakfast and coffee breaks. Evelyn's Cafe at EMPAC will be open for lunch and dinner during the conference and festival, July 10-13. For additional information on the conference or the pre-conference workshops please contact Lisa Barnard Kelley at conference@deeplistening.org For additional information about registration, logistics, lodging or the Rensselaer campus, please contact the office of Summer, Outreach and Advanced Professional Studies at SOAPS@RPI.edu NOTE: This program requires a minimum number of registered participants to take place.
