Brief Description

The YTS is a series based points program where children or novice adults can race triathlon in the YTS series just once a year or regularly to accrue points to win their age group for the season.

Series Points Will Count For The Best of 5 Races

In 2010 we will take the BEST OF 5 (FIVE) YTS Triathlons to determine each athlete's overall points for the season. Going into 2010 we have 8 scheduled YTS races and each race will open for registration as all final permitting is obtained for that venue. If you would like to avoid the online registration fee and simply pay the $40 registration price by mail in registration please send Suzanne a request at zanna@tampabay.rr.com and a form will be emailed to you.

Your Age Is Determined by the age the athlete will be on December 31st of the current year. Ages 5 and 6 – The Sprinters 25 yard swim (1 pool lengths), ½ to 1 mile bike, ¼ mile run 7 and 8 year olds - The Olympians - 100 yard swim (4 pool lengths), 2 mile bike, ½ mile run 9 and 10 year olds – The Contenders – 100 yard swim (4 pool lengths), 2 mile bike, ½ mile run 11 to 14 year olds – The Elites - 200 yard swim (8 pool lengths), 4 mile bike, 1 mile run

Can Adults Race

Of course - new triathletes, those recovery, or those that want to inspire our youth are encouraged to take part in the final waves of the day in the Adult division. There is no age limit or descrimination to your ability level. This is a finisher's race without awards to eliminate more competitive adults from entering. We want athletes of all ages to find the joy in triathlon. Adult Super Sprinters - 200 yard swim (8 pool lengths), 4 mile bike, 1 mile run (Parents Are Encouraged To Race!)

USAT Sanctioned Series

Each race in the YTS is sanctioned and insured by the governing body of the sport of triathlon USAT. Information on USAT's fees and policies can be found at USATriathlon.org Each year children must pay a one time annual fee of $5 to become a USAT member. Adults have the option of a $39 annual fee to join or they can pay the one day fee of $10 to race in a USAT sanctioned race.

How age is determined

Each athlete's age in a USAT Sanctioned triahtlon is determined by the age they will be in the final day of the year: December 31st. Please, when you come to triathlon let your athlete know their "triahlon" age. We put a strong emphasis on date of birth to avoid this confusion in timing results so when you look up results for your athlete please look under the athlete's "triathlon age."

Additional Information

The YTS is RFID chip timed so athletes will take off in waves according to their age group. Each YTS race begins youngest to eldest no earlier than 7:30 a.m. race monring so ALL athletes, no matter your age, must arrive at the venue prior to 7 a.m. to avoid cars arriving at the venue once the race is underway. If you are having trouble finding course maps at www.IamTri.com/profile/YTS or any other pertinent information you might need, simply email zanna@tampabay.rr.com and the info will be quickly sent to you.

Sanctioning

USA Triathlon is the national governing body for the sports of triathlon, duathlon, winter triathlon and aquathlon in the United States. Participation in a USAT sanctioned event means the event director has the proper permits in place, liability and athlete excess medical insurance coverage and the event plan has met the standard of organization required. USA Triathlon provides rules, guidance and governance to set the standard for safe and fair multi-sport races.
