Brief Description

Join the Town of Strasburg as we celebrate our 250th Anniversary. Run and bike through the beautiful Shenandoah Valley, including a run along the North Fork of the Shenandoah River. The bike course will take you near Civil War Battlefields, rolling farm and pasture lands, and gorgeous views of Massanutten and North Mountains.

1st 5k Run

Run: Start at River Walk at Strasburg Town Park Follow path to Strasburg High School Follow Ram Drive to South Holliday Street Turn right on South Holliday Street Turn left onto High Street Turn right onto Sharpe Street Turn right onto Queen Street Turn right onto S. Holliday Street Turn left onto Ram Drive and follow back to River Walk and transition area.

Bike Route 30k

Follow Park Road to E. Queen Street; left. right S. Holliday Street left Old Valley Pike at light Follow Route 11 out-of-town right Brook Creek Road (railroad track crossing) right Back Road Follow Back Road right Junction Road (railroad track crossing) Stay on Junction Road as it turns into Ash Street. right Capon Street left Old Valley Pike right S. Holliday Street left onto E. Queen Street right onto Park Road Route ends at the transition area.

Final 5k

Start at River Walk at Strasburg Town Park Follow path to Strasburg High School Follow Ram Drive to South Holliday Street Turn right on South Holliday Street Turn left onto High Street Turn right onto Sharpe Street Turn right onto Queen Street Turn right onto S. Holliday Street Turn left onto Ram Drive and follow back to River Walk and finish line.

Packet Pick Up

Packet Pick Up will be Strasburg Park starting at 6:30am and will go through 7:45am. You will need your USAT card as well as your drivers license to pick up your packet.

Directions to Strasburg Park from 66.

Route 66 West take I-81 Southbound, Exit #298 - Strasburg, At stop sign, turn left onto Route 11 South At 2nd light (intersection of Route 11 and Route 55), get into left lane. Go straight on Massanutten Street. At first intersection, make a left onto E. Queen Street. You'll follow that out through a residential area and then an industrial area. You'll eventually come to the park entrance on your right; it's marked Park Road. Turn right. Follow the park road to the directed Parking area.

Timing

Race timing is provided by Tri Performance, LLC. Pick up your chip at packet pick up race morning. Attached the chip to your ankle and leave it on for the race. You will be directed over timing areas during the race. After the race the chip is to be returned at the finish line. If for any reason you need to drop out of the race return the chip to the finish line. You will receive the following split times (5k 1, T1, Bike, T2, Final 5k and overall time.

Teams

The 2nd Annual Strasburg Duathlon will allow team registration. If you're registering as a team, please be sure that each person registers separate and completes the team question by indicating their team name and which part of the event they will complete.

Prize categories include: Overall Men - Trophy Overall Women - Trophy Men/Women 19 and Under - Medals Men/Women 20-29 - Medals Men/Women 35-39 - Medals Men/Women 40-49 - Medals Men/Women - 50-59 - Medals Men/Women - 60-69 - Medals Men/Women - 70-79 - Medals Men/Women - 80+ - Medals Regarding the running route, it is relatively flat at the start; you will have one hill climb during the first third of the race, a very small hill climb at the halfway point, and then a return downhill to the transition area. The same route is being used for the first and final run. Regarding the biking route, you'll find some terrain change throughout the course. The first three miles are relatively flat, but have some turns while riding through town. At approx. 3.2 miles, you'll have an approx. 200' elevation increase over a very short distance, with another 200' elevation increase at the 9.6 mile marker. The last three miles are relatively flat as you return to the park and the transition area. As mentioned previously, you will have two railroad crossings throughout the bike course. Separate parking for racers will be available.

Sanctioning

USA Triathlon is the national governing body for the sports of triathlon, duathlon, winter triathlon and aquathlon in the United States. Participation in a USAT sanctioned event means the event director has the proper permits in place, liability and athlete excess medical insurance coverage and the event plan has met the standard of organization required.
