Brief Description

The Ruidoso Sprint Triathlon is a high altitude event (7000ft).It will begin with a gun start for the 3.5 mile run toward Grindstone Lake. After arriving at the lake runners will go clockwise and return to the transition area to grab their bikes. The 10 mile cycling event passes the Inn of Mountain Gods with a turn around at the Hunting Lodge.From the transition area, triathletes run to the indoor pool and swim 400 yards. FOREST CLOSURE

Since the running trail is on Village of Ruidoso property the closure will NOT affect the triathlon. Do not hesitate to register...

THE EVENTS

Come play in Ruidoso, playground of the Southwest !!! Fun for all the family with a Kids Tri this year, too. High Altitude- No Attitude. Lakeside trail run 3.5M, Hilly Bike ride 10M, 400Y indoor pool swim.

THE CAUSE

Proceeds from the Ruidoso Sprint Triathlon will benefit the Ruidoso Trails Coalition. The RuidosoTrails Coalition Fund is a local effort sponsoring and supporting the creation of a network of mountain bike trails in the area. Contact www.bicycleruidoso.com for more information

RACE PACKET PICK UP & REGISTRATION

Registration limited to 200 entries. Registration deadline is 6/8/2011 at 5pm. NO RACE DAY REGISTRATION. All athletes are required to show photo ID. (including relay participants). Youth athletes without an ID must be accompanied by a parent/guardian with a photo ID. Each athlete will have to sign a USAT waiver.Packet & chip pick up on Friday,June 10th, 2011 from 8:00 am to 9:30 pm at the Ruidoso Athletic Club, 415 Wingfield Street( 575-257-4900).

AGE GROUPS & CATEGORIES

Individual age groups: :13-14;15-17;18-19; 20-24; 25-29; 30-34; 35-39; 40-44; 45-49; 50-54; 55-59; 60-64; 65-69; 70 & over. Athena (woman150lbs+); Clydesdale(male200lbs+). Teams: Male; Female or Co-ed.

KIDS TRIATHLON

AGE GROUPS: 6 & under, 7-8; 9-10; 11-12. SWIM: 6&under 25Y; 7-8 50Y; 9-10 100Y; 11-12 150Y. BIKE: 6 & under 1M; 7 to 10 2M; 11-12 4M. RUN: 6 & under .25M, 7 to 10 1/2M; 11-12 1M. A $5 fee is required by the USAT for insurance purpose. A parent will be require to sign a waiver & bring a photo ID at registration.The kids Tri will start after the awards ceremony, around 11:45 am on 6/11/2011. Medals will be given to kids entries.

RACE DAY ORGANIZATION

6:30 am to 7:15 am: Late packet pick-up, Bring USAT license, photo ID, sign waiver, body marking, Bike corral opens. 7:20 am: Race Briefing. 7:45am Transition is closed. 8am Race starts. 11:00am bike corral closes. 11:15 Award ceremony. 11:45 Kids Triathlon starts. The Triathlon will be held rain or shine. NO REFUNDS or RETURNS.

PARKING INSTRUCTIONS

NO PARKING by the Ruidoso Athletic Club. Plenty of spaces will be available across Wingfield Street.

SHIRTS & AWARDS

Each triathlete will receive a short sleeve cotton shirt (we make every effort to have sufficient shirts for every participants). Top Three Male & Female Solo: Ruidoso Carved Bears (12' high). Top Relay Male, Female & Co-ed(each member 2 or 3/team): Ruidoso Carved Bears. Athena/Clydesdale, Age groups winners (Male & Female)- 2 deep: Ruidoso Carved Bears (smaller but cute !). Medals will be awarded in the Kids Triathlon.

CHIP TIMING & WAVE START

Each chip MUST be placed on your left ankle.Team participants will have to exchange the chip during the race. We will have a gun start with various waves starting at 8:00 am: Male & Clydesdale 8:10: Female & Athena 8:20: Male, Female & Co-ed Teams.

Additional Information

We are proud for the 5th annual Ruidoso Sprint Triathlon & Kids Triathlon to be included in the Southwest Challenge Series-- a Duathlon & Triathlon Championship series in New Mexico & West Texas regrouping over 40 events. The races will be sanctioned by the USA Triathlon.

Sanctioning

USA Triathlon is the national governing body for the sports of triathlon, duathlon, winter triathlon and aquathlon in the United States. Participation in a USAT sanctioned event means the event director has the proper permits in place, liability and athlete excess medical insurance coverage and the event plan has met the standard of organization required.
