Brief Description

Located within the Monongahela National Forest, this is one of America's most beautiful triathlons. The race begins at 10AM on Sunday, July 12, 2009 at Summit Lake (located east of Richwood, WV off of Rt. 39/55) with a .5 mi. swim, followed by a 17.1 mi. cycle leg on the National Scenic By-way Rt. 39/55 and over challenging 9% grade Kennison Mountain. The race concludes with a 6.2 mi. run at the Cranberry Mt. Nature Center.

 
 

Additional Information

We are celebrating our 24th Annual Scenic Mountain Triathlon!!! With our Great Sponsors Alpha Natural Resources and Brooks Run Mining! Very scenic race which is entirely within the Monongahela National Forest. Swim in mountain top lake, Summit Lake (cool, still water). Bike along a clear trout stream and over 3988 ft., 9% grade Kennison Mountain on a national scenic by-way (hard paved surface). Run out and back to the Cranberry Glades from the Cranberry Mountain Nature Center (mixed surface of pavement and compacted gravel). Usually between 100 to 150 athletes total. Divisions are broken down by sexes and 5-year age intervals. -Prizes and trophies for top three places in all age categories. All pre-registered racers are guaranteed a t-shirt, day-of-race registered racers get shirts while supplies last. This is a well organized race. Pre-race pasta dinner on Saturday night in historic Richwood, WV is free to all racers and open to the public. Post-race cookout at finish line. Family friendly event.

 

Sanctioning

USA Triathlon is the national governing body for the sports of triathlon, duathlon, winter triathlon and aquathlon in the United States.
