Basic information about the course

The roads of Franklin Park are not able to be closed for the event. The final course is still in design.

USAT

THS EVENT IS USAT SANCTIONED AND REQUIRES ALL PARTICIPANTS TO BE USAT MEMBERS ($15/ANNUAL). PLEASE OBTAIN AN USAT NUMBER FOR YOUR CHILD(REN) BEFORE BEGINNING REGISTRATION, AT WWW.USATRIATHLON.ORG You can also register by using the Non-USAT One-day pass option, which includes the $10 for the 1-day pass, but does not provide an USAT membership.

Kids Triathlon

Wave 1 – Ages 6 and 7 will swim a single length of 25 yards, a 1 mile bike, followed by a .25 mile cross country run and . Wave 2 – Ages 8 and 9 will swim 50 yards, 1 ½ mile bike and a .25 mile cross country run. Wave 3 – Ages 10, 11, and 12 will snake swim for 100 yards, cycle 2 miles and run .5 miile cross country. Wave 4 – Ages 13 -15 will snake swim a 150 yard swim, cycle 2 miles and run .75 mile cross country.

Kids Duathlon

For the non swimmers there will be a Duathlon set up similar to the Triathlon. Ages 6-7 will be a .1 mile run, 1 mile cycle, and a .25 mile run. Ages 8-9 be a .25 mile run, 1 ½ mile cycle and a .25 mile run.

Run-Trike-Run

Not to forget the little ones, we will have a Run Trike Run! Open to ages 3, 4, and 5 who want to do what the elder sibling is doing or just wants to get active in a safe environment. This will be a run through a closed rectangle and then trike around the perimeter of the rectangle and finish with a run back through the rectangle to end where they started. This distance is to be determined as of yet but we will err on light side.

Awards

All participants will receive a t-shirt and medal. This is NOT a timed race, so that all athletes can feel the success of completing an event.

Packet Pick-up

Packet Pick Up is Friday Sept 7th, from 3:00-7:00 pm, and MANDATORY BIKE AND HELMET CHECK- ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST BE PRESENT WITH THEIR GEAR Will be available at: Bicycle Outfitters 34-D Catoctin Circle SE Leesburg, VA 20176 Please DO NOT CALL the store about packet pick-up. They are graciously allowing us to use their space, but we are a separate entity, and they will not have information available. USAT CARDS MUST BE PRESENTED FOR PACKET PICK-UP

Body Marking

LoCo Racing Staff will marker your child's number on their body for recognition. The bibb numbers will be worn on the front of their torso during the biking and running portions of the race.

Other race info.

We ask that the support teams for the athletes please respect the tape/fences and allow LoCo Racing to do their job in providing a safe and fun event. There will be more than enough volunteers on site as well as USAT Coaches to provide all the care and direction the athlete may need. We hope to have this a smooth flowing event for the children but this is the first time doing such an event so I am sure there will be a learning curve. We will do our best to provide a SAFE and FRIENDLY course.

Other activities

Food and refreshments will be available for the athletes. Franklin Park has a playground, ball fields and fishing pond to also keep you busy afterwards.

USA Triathlon is the national governing body for the sports of triathlon, duathlon, winter triathlon and aquathlon in the United States. Participation in a USAT sanctioned event means the event director has the proper permits in place, liability and athlete excess medical insurance coverage and the event plan has met the standard of organization required.
