Brief Description

XTERRA Appalachia will be held August 4, 2013. Presented by American Adventure Sports.

Additional Information

Swim: 800 meters, average water temp is 82 degrees.
Swim will be well marked with buoys & athletes will swim in a clock wise direction, with the buoys on their right. ( DCNR life guards will be stationed at intervals along the swim in kayaks.) SAFETY: Racers must pass through the head count chute before the start of the swim & after the completion of the swim while heading to transition.

Mountain Bike: 13 miles.
The mountain bike course is a combination of fire roads, single track trail & some park roads. Terrain is rolling & typical of western Pennsylvania . There is some challenging single track, a creek crossing and some challenging, lung busting climbs & bombing down hills. Technical difficulty is about a 5 on a scale of 1 to 10. The bike course will be marked with the BLUE XTERRA arrows & BLUE CHALK on the ground. .

Trail Run: 4 miles.
The trail run is almost entirely run on single track trails, some of which are very technical. Terrain is rolling & typical of western Pennsylvania . The run course will be marked with the RED XTERRA arrows at waist high & RED CHALK on the ground. (There will be 2 water aid stations along the course.)

Lodging is available at Seven Springs Mountain Resort.

There will be an aid station located at the START/TRANSITION/FINISH area with water, Gatorade. Gatorade will be providing plenty of product, including bike bottles full of Gatorade for the bike course. The Start/Transition/Finish area is located near the beach on the south shore. Just off of state road 259. There is plenty of parking, hot showers, a food concession, picnic tables, the beach, play grounds for the small children, boat rentals, pretty much anything that you could need for a day of family fun.
