We're Back!!!

We are very excited to be back this year! The 2010 City of Gold event will be both a TRIATHLON and DUATHLON.

NEW INFORMATION FOR 2010

The City of Gold Triathlon will include a DUATHLON (run, bike, run) this year.

Distances

Triathlon: .5-mile swim - 12-mile bike - 3.1-mile run
Duathlon: 3.5-mile run - 12-mile bike - 3.1-mile run

USA Triathlon

This event is USAT sanctioned. As a USAT sanctioned event, all participants must either be current annual USAT members, or purchase a one-day license ($10).

Early Registration (by April 25):
Individual - $70
Kid's Individual - $45
Relay Team - $110 (2 or 3 people)

Please Note: We WILL accept race day registration.

Deadline to mail entries is May 1.

Race Day Highlights

Free bike inspection before event; each participant will receive a goody bag, t-shirt and participants' medal; music, food and vendors will be set up following the event.

Packet Pick Up

You may pick up your packet at the event on race morning between 7:30 and 8:30 am at the top of the boat ramp. Your packet will include your race numbers and t-shirt. A pre-race packet pick up will be held - location TBA.

Entry Confirmation

Entrants will not receive confirmation of entry by mail but can check for confirmation at www.underthesunevents.org/cityofgold.htm.

Duathlon Course Info - Run #1

3.1-mile run on the beautiful Kelly Ridge Trail. The start will take place at the parking lot above the transition area. Participants will run to the trail and complete a 3.1-mile loop. They will make their way back to the transition area to pick up their bike.

Triathlon Course Info - Swim

.5-mile (1/2 mile) swim in beautiful Lake Oroville. Water temperature averages 65 degrees. Wetsuits suggested.

Duathlon and Triathlon Course Info-Bike

12 mile bike on hilly residential roads. Participants will head out of the Bidwell Canyon Recreation Area and proceed up to the top of Kelly Ridge Rd to the Visitor's Center. They then turn around and head back down Kelly Ridge Rd to cross over Hwy. 162, where every cyclist must stop and touch a foot to the ground before continuing across the highway. Participants continue on Miner's Ranch Rd, turn around at the Grange and return back up Kelly Ridge Rd and head back to the transition area.

Duathlon and Triathlon Course Info-Run

5K (3.1 mile) loop on the scenic Dan Beebee Trail overlooking Lake Oroville. The trail is a single dirt track with a moderate grade. There will be two water stations set up about one mile apart from each other.

Triathlon Rules

Helmets must be worn by all participants during the bike leg; No drafting on the bike course.

Directions

Take Hwy 70 to Oroville. Exit at Oro Dam Blvd (Hwy 162); turn east, heading through Oroville. Follow 2 miles until Olive Hwy and turn right (still Hwy 162). Follow 6 miles to Kelly Ridge Rd. Turn left at Kelly Ridge Rd and follow 1.5 miles to Arroyo St. Turn right and continue 1 mile until left curve. This leads you to entrance of Bidwell Canyon Recreation Area. Go straight until you reach the boat launch.

All entries include gender-specific technical t-shirts.

Results will be posted following the event at www.underthesunevents.org.

Available through 8 p.m. on May 6th. Please note there is a surcharge for online processing. The exact amount will be displayed on your screen before you submit payment.

Additional Information

Runners and bicyclists of all levels are invited to participate in the 7th Annual City of Gold Triathlon and Duathlon at the Bidwell Canyon Recreation Area at Lake Oroville on Saturday, May 8, 2010. Duathlon participants will run the beautiful Kelly Ridge Trail while the triathlon participants swim in beautiful Lake Oroville; then all participants bike the winding slopes of Kelly Ridge and Miner's Ranch Rd.; and run the scenic Dan Beebe Trail. Individual and Relay teams are welcome.

Sanctioning

USA Triathlon is the national governing body for the sports of triathlon, duathlon, winter triathlon and aquathlon in the United States. Participation in a USAT sanctioned event means the event director has the proper permits in place, liability and athlete excess medical insurance coverage and the event plan has met the standard of organization required. USA Triathlon provides rules, guidance and governance to set the standard for safe and fair multi-sport races.
