WHERE Wallowa Lake State Park near Joseph, Oregon Wallowa Lake marina WHEN Saturday, September 15, 2012 6:00 AM - 8:30 AM On site packet pickup and body marking 8:45 AM Pre-race instructions to be given 9:00 AM Race begins Awards to follow completion of event WEATHER & WATER TEMPERATURE You can check the weather for Joseph here. Water temperature is expected to be in the low 60's during the race. REGISTRATION & COSTS Registration is $45.00 for the individual triathlon and $90.00 for the team triathlon ($30.00 for each individual). T-shirts are an additional $5.00. Online registration will close on Thursday, September 13 at 8:00 PM. On-site registration will be available from 5:00 - 7:00 PM on Friday, September 14 at a location TBD. Packet pickup and body marking will also be done at this time. Packet pickup and body marking can also be done on race day from 6:00 AM - 8:30 AM. HOWEVER, WE STRONGLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO PICK UP YOUR PACKET ON FRIDAY TO LESSEN THE AMOUNT OF TRAFFIC ON RACE MORNING! There also will be NO RACE DAY REGISTRATION! This year's race will be completely chip-timed! You will receive your chip on race morning. There will be a separate table from the packet pickup to provide you your chip. The chip is attached to a vecro strap that will go around your ankle. Volunteers will help you remove your chip immediately after you finish. Failure to return the chip after the race will result in a $15 replacement cost. This race is being capped at 200 individuals and teams. CLASSES & AWARDS Male/Female age groups: under 14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80+ RACE DETAILS Staging area is the parking lot at the Wallowa Lake State Park marina, located at the south end of the lake. The swim will start/finish at the boat ramp. The transition is right next to the boat ramp in the parking lot area. The bike and run portions will both exit out the south end of the transition area. The bike will return to the south-east corner of the transition area. The run finishes under the Finish line banner directly in front of the marina building. Parking is available at the marina. Volunteers will direct traffic and spectators to make sure the race course stays clear. The swim will be in up to 4 waves of 50 at the boat ramp. Swimmers will swim a triangular clockwise course, returning to the boat ramp. After exiting T1, cyclists will ride to the city of Joseph and return to T2. The bike portion is nearly all flat, with a slight descent into Joseph and a slight ascent coming out of Joseph. After T2, runners will follow the bike course for about 1/2 mile, then turn right and start climbing to the end of the paved road. The climb is about 1 mile long, but the first 1/2 mile is fairly easy with the last 1/2 mile being the hardest. After the turn-around at the top of the hill, runners will be able to blast the way back to the marina and the finish line. SANCTIONING The Wallowa Lake Triathlon will be a USA Triathlon sanctioned event. At packet pickup, all athletes are required to show photo ID. NO ID, NO RACE, NO EXCEPTIONS. Annual members are required to bring their membership card every time they compete in a USAT sanctioned event. If your card has been lost, you can download and print a temporary card by logging into your USAT account at www.usatmembership.com. Athletes who are not USAT members MUST purchase a one-day license and MUST sign the USAT waiver.
