Description

This will be the 16th year for the Granite Bay Triathlon. It has been called California's Toughest Sprint Triathlon and it has the most challenging course, hot athlete food, and awards five deep in each five-year age group, plus FREE Athlete massage after the race.

Sprint Triathlon Championship Race: TRI Clubs and Individuals

The Granite Bay Triathlon has long been called the Toughest Sprint Triathlon in California because of the long swim, long run after-swim, tricky bike course and challenging run course. The race has been the host for the TRI Club Sprint Triathlon Championship Race and this year will also be an Individual Sprint Triathlon Championship Race. TRI Club finishers will earn Finisher and Podium Points at Seven TBF Racing 2013 Qualifier events: ICE Breaker Triathlon 4/27, Mothers Day Triathlon (for women only) 5/12, TRI for FUN #1 6/1, Fathers Day Triathlon 6/16, TRI for FUN #2 7/6, TRI for FUN #3 8/3, and China Peak Sprint Triathlon 8/10. Each of these races will also qualify individual triathletes for the Individual Sprint Triathlon Championship Race at the 16th Annual Granite Bay Triathlon at a discount price. Athletes will qualify based upon the number of athletes competing in their age group. Age groups with 1-5 athletes will qualify the top athlete. With 6-10 athletes the top 2 two. With 11-20 finishers 3 will qualify, with 21-30 finishers 4 will qualify, and with 31+ finishers the top five age group athletes will qualify.

The race starts from the Granite Beach in Folsom Lake with a .75 mile swim from the beach area. Water temperature should be approximately 56 degrees. Wetsuits are recommended.

The 13-mile bike course is a TWO-LAP course located entirely within the park on roads closed to traffic. The bike course is windy and has several sharp small hills and tight turns. It is STRONGLY recommended that you ride the course ahead of time. Caution is advised on several of the turns as they wind through the hills and oak trees that surround Folsom Lake. After the second loop you will return into the transition area.

The 5-mile run course leaves transition and runs on single-track trails along the lake back towards Beals Point. The out and back course has 3 aid stations that will be stocked with water, electolyte beverage, and energy gels.

Included for each competitor is a custom tech-tee race shirt, a swim cap, athlete goody bag with CLIF Bar and Emerald Nuts product samples.

First place Overall Male and Female in the Granite Bay Triathlon will receive Overall Champion Awards. There will be awards five deep in each five-year age group for the Granite Bay Triathlon.
