This race has earned a reputation as one of the country’s premier races by offering challenging courses, scenic venues and unmatched hospitality. In 2012 the race returns to Des Moines, where competitors will swim in Gray’s Lake, bike through historic Des Moines, run along the Des Moines River and finish at Iowa’s most recognized landmark–the Iowa State Capitol. Hy-Vee has partnered with World Triathlon Corporation to host the U.S. Championship of WTC’s new 5150 Series.

You’ll have the opportunity to watch the best professionals in the world compete for a $1 million prize purse – including more than $50,000 in lap bonuses – in the Hy-Vee 5150 Elite Cup. This is a spectator-friendly race course. Many hotels and ample parking available near the venue. Cash and prizes for top age-group finishers.

Sanctioning

USA Triathlon is the national governing body for the sports of triathlon, duathlon, winter triathlon and aquathlon in the United States. Participation in a USAT sanctioned event means the event director has the proper permits in place, liability and athlete excess medical insurance coverage and the event plan has met the standard of organization required. USA Triathlon provides rules, guidance and governance to set the standard for safe and fair multi-sport races.
