Brief Description

The Dog Days Sprint Tri is a great first timers event and a fun challenging course for those with experience. The triathlon starts at Broadlands Outdoor Pool off of Village Drive in Broadlands VA with a pool swim, then heads out to Claiborne Parkway for the bike and on the Broadlands trails for the run.

400 METER OUTDOOR POOL SWIM

Distance is 400 meter snake swim in a 50m pool. Swim start is 7AM according to your estimated swim time. Swimmers will go off every 15s. Your official race time starts when you step on the timing mats prior to jumping in the water. When setting your swim time, please be as accurate as possible. You can enter ANY time...e.g., 8:14, 8:27. We will send an email end of July regarding swim changes.

12 MILE BIKE COURSE

The bike course is a double loop course starting at the Pool off of Village Drive and ending at the Pool at Village Drive. You must complete the entire loop twice, at the end of your second loop you will turn back onto Village Drive and into transition area. Please note that police will be at the crossing intersections during the bike but you will need to look for their direction for a safe crossing. See below for course details.

5k RUN

The run is a mostly flat out and back course on the Broadlands trails. There will be a water station at the turn around point on the course. See below for course details.

PPU & Bike/Helmet Check BEFORE you race

All bikes and helmets MUST BE CHECKED BEFORE YOU START THE TRI, per USAT guidelines. Bicycle Outfitters will be on-site at PPU Friday and Saturday of race weekend to check all bikes and helmets, so please BRING YOUR BIKE AND HELMET WITH YOU to PPU. Bicycle Outfitters (Leesburg, VA, Catoctin Circle) will check your bike/helmet at their store during the two weeks prior to race weekend. Please contact them to arrange a time.

NO RACE DAY PPU THIS YEAR

3 Pre-Race Information Sessions on Race Weekend

We will host three 15 minute race overview and Q&A sessions during the following times: Friday 7/30: 4:45PM and 7:00PM Saturday 7/31: 4:45PM Please plan to attend to learn more about what you can expect on race morning. We're happy to answer any questions you have to help make your race as fun and safe as possible. This is a USAT sanctioned event. As such, we follow USAT rules. BIKE COURSE - *UPDATED from June Tri*

The 2010 Dog Days Bike course will be modified slightly to ease traffic congestion. From Village Dr; Right on Claiborne Pkwy; Right on Waxpool; Left on DeMott; Left on Broadlands Blvd; Left on Glebe View; Left on Truro Parish; Right on Claiborne; Follow across Croson; U-turn & follow Croson back to Village Dr to complete 1st loop. RUN COURSE - *UPDATED from June Tri*

The run starts & finishes at Village Dr. Start by running out across Village Dr onto trail under Claiborne Pkwy; follow trail down Claiborne turning left on Waxpool. Follow trail to right & go through tunnel under Waxpool near the Broadlands Community Pool. After tunnel turn right and follow trail along crossing Ellzey & Vestals Gap. AWARDS

Age Group Awards will be awarded to the top male/female in each of the following age categories: 18 and under, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80+. Team awards will be give to 1st place overall team.

TIMING

This event is being timed and scored by TRI PERFORMANCE, LLC. On race day, participants will be required to pick-up a timing chip at least 1/2 hour prior to the start. The timing chip attaches to the ankle using an elastic strap. Failure to wear a timing chip during the event will prevent the participant from being timed. At the finish line, all timing chips and ankle straps must be returned to TRI PERFORMANCE, LLC or the participant will be charged $30.00.
