2011 LOP TRIATHLON CANCELLED

We are saddened to inform you that the Lake of the Pines Triathlon has been cancelled for this year. Our Race Director has stepped down for personal reasons, and though we have made every effort to find a replacement in our due diligence to keep this 29 year community tradition alive, we are sending this report to you, so that you can make other plans for that weekend. All of you that have already registered will be receiving a full refund.

LOP TRIATHLON CANCELLED

We hope to reenergize our Triathlon Committee and our Lake of the Pines community for next year and come back to you with an event that all of you have become accustomed to over the years. Thank you for your past participation, and we hope to be seeing you next year. Sincerely, Chuck Lautrup, Chairman, Lake of the Pines Board of Directors Ralph Kendrick, Chairman & Triathlon Race Director

Important Information - Please Read All

The following contains information pertaining to your entry. Please Read in its entirety. All 3 events (Short, Medium, & Long Courses) are back again for this year as well as Timing and Results. (See below) Scroll down for more information on this Sierra Foothill Triathlon Experience.

Race Registration

IMPORTANT NOTICE: There will be no Race Day Registration again this year. Everyone must pre-register for the Lake of the Pines Triathlon. Active.com registrations may close early in August depending on number of entries. Normally, registration will close at midnight on 24 August 2011.

Course Distances

Short: 100-200 meter Swim (change still in design), 2.4 mi Bike, 1.4 mi Run.
Medium: .3 mi Swim, 5 mi Bike, 3.8 mi Run.
Long: .6 mi Swim, 15 mi Bike, 3.8 mi Run.

Relay Events

Relays this year are available for all 3 courses: Short, Medium, and Long. Two Age Brackets: 13&Under and 14&Over.

Entry Fees

Again This year we are giving a discount on entry fees for ages 17&Under. We've cut our fees down to give us as close to a break even as we can. We hope the fee structure helps families with multiple entry needs. T-Shirts & Finisher's Medals are on an ala carte menu selection for an additional fee. Everything we've done here is our best effort at keeping fees as low as possible.

Check-in

6:00 a.m. - 7:00 a.m.
Check in at the appropriate registration table, depending on entry as a relay team or individual.
Brief Race Instructions will be given at 7:15 a.m. These times may change.

Triathlon Course Layout

This year's events compete in all three disciplines (legs) over the same course routes. The courses are over challenging terrain. You will ride and run over asphalt surfaces - no dirt or trails, but there are hills. The feedback from previous years' participants is that they really like the Lake of the Pines Triathlon course(s).

Transition Areas

The Medium & Long Course Tri's have their T1 & T2 transitions in the same location at the Main Beach finish area for the swim. The Short Course T1 is at the Main Beach, but T2 (bike/run) is on the other side of the lake. Relays will need to pre-position their runner over there. Individuals using clip-on pedals/shoes will need to either carry their running shoes with them, or pre-position their running shoes at Park #5 - Green Valley Road.

Wetsuits and Swim Gear

WETSUIT POLICY: Wetsuits will only be allowed in the special wetsuit category of each of the 3 tri events. Lake water temperature ranges from 75-80 F. Wetsuits will constitute a special wave start in each event. Except for goggles, other swim aids must be pre-approved by Race Director. Colored (Wave Specific) Latex Swim caps will be provided and must be worn. Let us know if you have an allergy to latex.

Aid Stations

Will be located throughout the run course at one mile intervals - 4 in all. Water & First Aid will be available. MIle 0 - just as you exit the transition area, then one at Mile 1, 2, & 3.

Awards

To help in keeping the race fees as low as possible, there are no awards being given. Timing and Results will be provided. A Finisher's Medal can be ordered through the Registration Process on Active.com. $5.00 will be added to your entry fee. Register as early as possible.

August Training Opportunities

During the month of August the organizers of the Lake of the Pines Triathlon(s) would like to make available to registered athletes the opportunity to conduct a training swim/bike/run on the Race Course Venues. Contact the Registration Coordinator at 530-268-6366 to make an appointment.
